The Department of Applied Mathematics III is part of the Section modeling, simulation and optimization of the Department of Mathematics. The Working Group has positioned itself in the field of Scientific Computing.Thematic focus is on fluid mechanics, and image processors, including:

• Numerics of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, in particular, flows with interfacial phenomena, including capillary free surfaces.
• Free boundary value problems, krümmungsgetriebene problems, image processing, nonlinear parabolic problems.
• Adaptive finite element techniques.
